Home » Meet The Team: Anant Gupta, Senior Developer
At Topsec Cloud Solutions, strong technology is built by people who have spent years immersed in it. Senior Developer Anant Gupta is one of those people. With a lifelong passion for computers and more than half his life spent coding, his journey into cybersecurity was less a career choice and more a natural evolution.
I have worked with computers since I was about 11 years old and built my first PC when I was 14. I have been coding for 16 years now, which is half my life. Before Topsec, I worked in VFX and animation studios where I developed technologies that helped artists create films and digital content. Over time, I wanted a bigger challenge and something that moved faster as an industry. Joining Topsec allowed me to continue building technology, but in cybersecurity rather than film. The core skill set is similar, but the impact and pace are very different.
I am relatively new to the managed email security space itself, but I have seen how cybersecurity overall has shifted, especially with the rise of AI over the last few years. I am a firm believer that the core of detection technology should still be robust and engineered carefully rather than relying fully on AI. Security tools need to do one thing extremely well instead of trying to do many things only adequately. What I value about Topsec is that the company does not jump onto trends quickly. There is a more structured and conscious approach to deciding what technologies are worth investing in and developing.
One of the most significant projects I worked on was creating a new mechanism that allows clients to interact with Topsec Cloud Solutions outside of the main web application. Previously, clients would only access our technology through a website, but we expanded that capability so they could connect in more structured and flexible ways.
Another major milestone was developing an application for IBM. As a result, Topsec became part of IBM’s trusted partner programme and our application was published on their platform. This allowed our technology to integrate directly into their frameworks and opened new enterprise opportunities. Both of these projects came from customer needs and represented strong technical and branding achievements.
AI is definitely going to change what people expect email systems to do. People will increasingly want smarter filtering, better categorisation of meetings and more assistant style features. However, this also comes with privacy and security considerations because it involves giving third party systems access to inbox data. From an organisational security perspective, I think the biggest trend will simply be continuing to strengthen infrastructure and core protection rather than chasing novelty.
I am a senior developer and there are three other senior developers alongside me, as well as our CTO and operations staff. It is a relatively small team but highly experienced. This allows us to collaborate closely and move efficiently. There are no junior developers in the team at the moment.
Developers do not usually receive direct customer feedback. Most of the insight we get comes through our support team or through leadership conversations with clients. The IBM integration project and the expanded client access capabilities both originated from customer requests. When I design new user interfaces or features, I often ask the support team to review them to make sure they feel consistent with what customers are already used to. We don’t want anything to feel out of place.
I enjoy playing games, designing games and making music. Having a variety of creative outlets helps me switch off from structured development work and keeps a healthy balance between technical focus and creativity.
